Sideline Snacks Kids Will Actually Eat
Healthy halftime and after-game ideas that travel well.
By CC Rae · 4 min read
Snack duty doesn’t have to mean a cooler full of sugar. These are the easy, healthy options that get eaten every time and hold up in a bag on a warm afternoon.
Halftime
- Orange slices. The classic for a reason: quick energy, lots of water and easy to share.
- Watermelon or grapes. Freeze grapes the night before and they double as an ice pack.
- Water. Pack more than you think you need. Skip the sugary sports drinks for younger kids.
The ride home
- Turkey and cheese roll-ups. Protein that’s easy to eat in the car.
- Single-serve guacamole or hummus with veggies. Carrots, snap peas and cucumber travel well.
- Homemade trail mix. Nuts, seeds and a little dark chocolate. Check your team’s allergy rules first.
- Hard-boiled eggs or Greek yogurt tubes. Keep them in the cooler.
Make it easy on yourself
Prep on Sunday: wash and cut fruit, portion snacks into reusable bags, and stack them in the fridge so whoever is driving can grab and go. A little planning means nobody is hitting the drive-through on the way home.
